Comment by Linda Rawlings on November 6, 2012 at 10:44am All of our high school students (2550) are now using iPads daily in school. This year, we have also given them to all 8th graders and are piloting other groups in both elementary and middle schools. We conducted multiple surveys last year of high school student use and found that student productivity, engagement, and access to their learning and teachers all improved with the use of this device. I am curious about input from others on use in the elementary and lower middle school grades.
Comment by Laura D.Davis on October 24, 2012 at 4:54pm Below, you’ll find a listing of relevant articles about integrating Mobile Technologies in a classroom setting, of which is mostly about the iPad. I hope you enjoy the readings and may it add to successful tools and practices in your classroom or organization.

There is no need to pre-installing any paid apps, but it’s worth knowing about the most popular iPad apps being used in actual classrooms around the world.

4) Is Your District Properly Managing Mobile Devices?
Buy one or two smartphones for teachers, administrators or staff and, before you know it, there will be dozens in the district. That much investment needs some management. But mobile device management (MDM) is new territory for most IT staff that didn't come from the telecom side. Luckily, there are plenty of tools to help.

5) The e-Learning Market: It's About the Learner, Not the Instructor!
E-learning is first and foremost about learning. Without a focus on the learner, the learners' needs, and the aptitude of the learner, e-learning cannot take place. However, the enabler for all this online learning is technology. An online learner cannot learn if he or she is encountering technical difficulties. To make e-learning successful, the technology must have several characteristics that make the learner's and the instructor's experience enjoyable.

6) How important is Twitter in your Personal Learning Network?
You can have a PLN without Twitter (those non-Twitter spaces are important for a well developed PLN); Twitter does play a unique role within a PLN, which makes it a powerful platform for networked learning and professional development.

First, does anyone know of any studies iPad impact on Math student performance, or any subject's performance yet?
Second, does anyone know of any awesome algebra, geometry, trig, or calc apps?
Third, how about middle school math apps?
Comment by Teh-yuan Wan on March 28, 2012 at 9:57am Has anyone come across any statistics on iPad penetration into P-12 schools or any projecting data? From the EETT project budgets that I have reviewed, there seems to be more and more desire to purchase iPads than any other devices such as desktops, laptops, netbooks, etc.
Is anyone using ipads as part of a Response to Intervention implementation in their school or district?

iPad Solutions Guide," Designing Wi-Fi for Multimedia in the Age of the iPad". It was administered by the Univ of Ottawa and details the validation of Voice and Video for over 100 iPads.
The guide states:
"The iPad is fast gaining ground in higher education and the enterprise due to its focus on multimedia, mobility and its diverse array of functionality enabled by dynamically downloaded applications. Unlike first generation mobile platforms, it has the horsepower, battery life and connectivity bandwidth to deliver a true multimedia experience".

I am from Long Island living and working in Maryland now. Our district is rocking and rolling with iPads. We have over 6,000 iPads in our school district with an emphasis on middle schools and special education. If you have not looked a the Textbooks on iPads, go to www.apple.com and search for textbook and look at the videos and you will be blown out of the water.
