Interdisciplinary Instructional Approaches

I have been teaching a course in interdisciplinary instruction for teaching candidates for many years. Currently, I use my own book in which I propose approaches to both interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary instructional unit planning. I retired from full-time teaching in 2008 but have continued to teach the course in the fall semester each year. Profile Information

I earned my BS degree in Elementary Education atSUNY/Oneonta, an MS and professional diploma in Reading , and an Ed.D. degree at Hofstra University. I am certified in New York State to teach in the Kindergarten and Common Branches. I began my career in education as a classroom teacher in the Merrick, New York Public Schools on Long Island. Later, I served as a consultant in reading and as an administrator of an experimental early childhood program. At the college level, I have taught courses in child development, foundations of education, interdisciplinary instructional strategies (a generic methods course), and supervised seminar groups of senior student teachers. I served as Chair of the Childhood Education and Literacy Department in the School of Education at SUNY/ Old Westbury before retiring in the fall of 2008. The fourth edition of my text, Interdisciplinary Instruction for All Learners K-8 was published in 2010 by Pearson Allyn & Bacon, and I have contributed articles to professional journals, including Language Arts, Childhood Education, The Journal of Child Development, The Journal of Teacher Education, Sociological Abstracts, ERIC Documents. I have held membership in AERA, The Association Montessori Internationale, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the Kappa Delta Pi honor society.
